Blue Beetle has been an interesting and compelling character for DC for many years. There are numerous versions of the hero, a rich history to rely on, and it touches an area of the DC Comics cannon that isn't seen on TV today. Warner Brothers has been looking to get this character onto televisions for a while now. The CW once ordered a pilot of a Blue Beetle show that they passed on. The trouble with a live action Blue Beetle show is all the CGI that would be needed. HBO Max is taking the gamble and working to bring the character to their new streaming platform!
This once conceived movie, is now making its way to an episodic television show. HBO has tapped Zev Forman to head this project and Garett Dunnet-Alcocet to write. So far, the show is going to focus on Jaime Reyes but does mention Ted Kord and Dan Gerett. The working logline says:
Based on the Mexican-American character Jaime Reyes, [Blue Beetle] has super powers from a sacred scarab. He first manifested himself as Dan Garett, a police officer who fought crime with superpowers. The second version of Blue Beetle was Ted Kord, Garett’s student who continued fighting crime with superpowers.
It isn't known if this will go to a full series order or not so stay with us as the news on this show develops! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and in the forum!
