Warner Brothers and ViacomCBS are shopping around the idea of selling The CW. What this means for all the DCTV properties is uncertain.

Green Arrow and the Canaries Spoiler-Free Review

For Arrowverse fans, the presence of Oliver Queen is being felt just about everywhere. While the hero was last seen in Crisis on Infinite Earths, his Daughter is taking on his mantle two decades later in Star City. She isn't alone though, Two Canaries are at her side. One is a time-traveling agent from 2020 with knowledge of the future and the other is an ex-police captain who woke up to a life that didn't exist. Here's our spoiler-free review of Green Arrow and the Canaries:

  1. Different Decade, Same Arrow: While Arrow will air its last episode ever next week, this future spin-off backdoor pilot has all the traditional feeling of the original Arrow show. The fight scenes look incredible, something Arrow was known for. There is plenty of action and lots of precision arrow shots! What else makes us feel like this is a call back to the original Arrow is how Mia Queen has a fortune! She is definitely in the eye of the city as a socialite but no one expects her other side.
  2. Crisis on Infinite Earths' Long Reach: If you've seen Supergirl or Batwoman or even Black Lightning you know that Crisis has affected all the shows on the CW! The merging of the Earths left many of our heroes with different realities than they had before. This takes center stage in Green Arrow and the Canaries. Not everyone remembers who they were and they certainly don't know who's calling the shots.
  3. Buddy Cop meets Lone Ranger: Many of the scenes feature the three leads, Mia, Laurel, and Dinah, but there is a cute dynamic that begins to form. The two Canaries seem to have this push and pull chemistry that is likened to a buddy cop film. They like each other, know how to push each other's buttons and think the world of each other. Meanwhile, the more Green Arrow Mia is, the more like her father she becomes! She is willing to take the risks and go solo when the situation calls for it.

Final thoughts: The show is set up with a familiar but functional plot. Add the twist of being two decades in the future and you have a bit of a Batman Beyond feel to this show. There are familiar mentors, new powerful heroes and always the shadow of what has happened in the past. While some may be concerned this show will have to deal with the stories being told in the 2020 Arrowverse, we have no concerns. The Flash, Supergirl, Legends and Black Lightning all share the same Earth and their stories will intermix and/or stay separate, no different than this one will.

In short, we think The CW has a hit on their hands and we hope to welcome Green Arrow and the Canaries to The CW's line-up with the coming Superman and Lois season of 2020-2021!
