Netflix's "Sandman" Series Receives TV-MA Rating

As one of the most anticipated projects coming later this year, Netflix’s “Sandman” series has fans on the edge of their seats, waiting for any official news. The original “Sandman” graphic novels, written by acclaimed author Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics were a smash hit, and news pertaining to Netflix’s live action adaptation has been minimal insofar. However, while the big news, such a release date, has been kept under lock and key, Netflix has released a bit of new information pertaining to the series.

Last week, Netflix confirmed that the “Sandman” series is confirmed as being TV-MA due to the language, violence, and sex depicted onscreen. Full rating details are available on the series’ Netflix page, noting the series will also feature dark subjects such as suicide, self harm, and smoking. Viewers who are unfamiliar with the graphic novel series and find this type of content to be triggering should take note and exercise caution before watching the series.

While we may be waiting a bit longer for new content, rest assured, the wait will be worth the hype. Until then, the series’ official premise is as follows: In 1916, Morpheus, the king of dreams and one of the seven Endless, is captured in an occult ritual. After being held captive for 105 years, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming. The show will star Tom Sturrige as Morpheus/Dream, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.
