Warner Brothers and ViacomCBS are shopping around the idea of selling The CW. What this means for all the DCTV properties is uncertain.

Painkiller Not Moving Forward at The CW

One of The CW’s most iconic superhero shows, Black Lightning, is ultimately coming to an end with its fourth season with the final episode airing tonight. However, the world of Black Lightning had a spark of hope in terms of continuing those stories with the greenlighting of Painkiller for a potential spin-off series.

As we got the chance to see in the backdoor pilot earlier this season, the proposed spin-off would’ve focused on Khalil Payne, portrayed by Jordan Calloway, and his ventures as the superpowered anti-hero, Painkiller and “Payne striving to bring justice where he once gave out punishment, while simultaneously struggling to deal with and harness his darker side”.

However, The CW has confirmed that the spin-off will unfortunately not be moving forward on the network. The future of Painkiller may not be completely dead though as Warner Brothers has reportedly been shopping it around to other networks and streaming services. One of the most likely candidates for being the home to this intriguing series would be HBO Max, the streaming service that’s home to many DC productions whether live-action or animated.
