HBO's Watchmen has been critically acclaimed as "must see TV"! This is on the very distant but relative heels of the Watchmen movie. Additionally, Geoff Johns even brought back the Watchmen into the zeitgeist with his conclusion of the Doomsday Clock, a comic that merged the highly successful regular DC Universe with the outsider vision of Watchmen. That said, HBO is being showered with praise with their Watchmen series. It was critically claimed a success! So with all the success that is showered upon the show, everyone is asking, when does season two come out?
That might not be in the cards says series showrunner, Nicole Kassell. Watchmen are considered a sacred text among the comic world, but HBO's version brought the story into a new decade that wasn't filled with 1980's politics. Many are hoping for a second season, Nicole Kassell is among them:
As a fan who has seen this whole thing, I definitely think there is content for a season two, if not more.
However, that is not a sentiment shared by showrunner, Damon Lindelof who said:
I think it would be delicious and wonderful to see. This is a love letter and an examination of the original Watchmen… I wanted everyone to know this is not the middle of the trilogy, this is not the beginning of a seven-season run. In my opinion, the best iteration of any season of Watchmen would mirror the original [graphic novel] in that it would be a self-contained story with the resolution of a fundamental mystery.
So, there is a big question in the air. Can HBO bring on a new second season, and ... will this be accepted in the true fandom? Only fans can decide, is a second season of Watchmen worth it, or does a second season of Watchmen dishonor the vision of what the original comics brought?
